Pediatric Dentistry

Good dental health is important at any age, but it is especially vital that children see a dentist on a regular basis. By starting your child off early with regular appointments and good oral health habits, you can help them enjoy great smiles for life.

At Smile Advanced Dental Center, we enjoy caring for patients of all ages, including children. We’re pleased to provide pediatric dentistry, starting at age 3, to help you keep your child’s smile in good health. We encourage a regular dental exam and cleaning every six months for children.

During each visit, our friendly team will gently clean your child’s teeth and check for signs of dental problems, such as tooth decay. We are practiced at making children feel comfortable and understand that it is important to build a positive, trusting relationship between your child and all of their doctors at a young age. We are dedicated to ensuring that your child feels comfortable and safe at our office.

In addition to bringing your child to our office for regular checkups, it is important that you help your child establish good oral hygiene habits at home. Teach your child to brush and floss their teeth every day and help them maintain a balanced, healthy diet.

If you have been looking for a pediatric dentist for your child in Summerville, South Carolina, call Advanced Dental Center at 843-873-1261 for an appointment.

Dental Sealants

No matter how careful you are when it comes to brushing and flossing, removing the plaque and food debris that can collect in your molars and premolars can be tough. And, if it is not removed, you could end up dealing with a cavity or a lost tooth. To keep your back teeth healthy, our dentists may recommend dental sealants.

A dental sealant is a preventive dental treatment that protects patients’’ teeth from decay and keeps smiles healthy. The sealant is made of a clear or tooth-colored resin material, which is painted onto the chewing surface of the tooth. By blocking out the bacteria and food debris that lead to tooth decay, the sealant prevents decay and cavities. The dental sealant forms a smooth coating over the natural pits and grooves of the tooth surface, which also makes it easier to effectively clean teeth with normal brushing.

Dental sealants are most often recommended for children between the ages of 6 to 12, generally on the permanent molars as soon as they come in. We may also recommend dental sealants for adult patients whose teeth are more prone to decay or have suffered from decay in the past. We can apply dental sealants in just one short, comfortable visit to our practice.

Fluoride Treatments

Do you know how tough your tooth enamel is?! Well, it’s not quite as tough a steel, but it is comparable. As strong as it is, however, your enamel can be worn down by the acids in your food and the plaque on your teeth.

Fluoride is a mineral that is naturally found in water and in many foods — and it helps strengthen your teeth and protect them from tooth decay. As you eat and drink throughout the day, bacteria, sugars, and acids constantly attack and demineralize the enamel of your teeth. Fluoride works to remineralize tooth enamel, preventing tooth decay and cavities. In addition, fluoride can strengthen teeth as they develop to make sure they are strong and healthy. So this makes fluoride very important for children as their teeth grow in.

While we all get a certain amount of fluoride from our diet and from using toothpaste with fluoride, we may recommend fluoride treatment to further strengthen your teeth and prevent cavities.

Our dentists and team members may recommend professional fluoride treatment during your regular dental checkup, especially if your teeth are prone to decay or if you aren’t receiving a sufficient amount of fluoride from other sources.

Professional fluoride is available in the form of a gel, varnish, or foam, and it is just one of the ways our team helps keep your smile healthy for a lifetime.
